This is a private seven-day trip from Athens and back. It follows the route Telemachus takes in Homer’s Odyssey, from Nestor’s Pylos through Pharai, today’s Kalamata, to Menelaus’ Sparta. It travels by private vehicle with our team, and licensed guides lead each major site. For readers of Homer, this route beats the usual Argolida circuit because it follows one story from west to east, with a host at each stage. Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, released in July 2026, filmed several scenes on the same coast, and those locations run through the trip as a second thread.
The order is the poem’s order. Corinthia comes first, then Messinia, then Laconia, so each host appears where Telemachus meets him. On day two, Giorgos takes the kayaks onto Navarino Bay in the afternoon. On day five, the walk over Taygetos ends at the Menelaion at sunset. Three hosted dinners stand in for the three Homeric tables.
The pace is moderate, with light activity each day. The two long days are the first and the last, at about four hours on the road each. The Mycenaean palace at Ayios Vasileios, found in 2009, is not open to visitors, so the route passes it by. We run the trip from April to June and from September to October, the months that suit the kayak and the mountain walk.
